This feels especially relevant, though I'm about 10 weeks (rather than years) in. Everyday thinking about whether I should give up and get a real job, but trying to keep going and know I will get there eventually.

One day at a time! Focus on what you’re building and why and you’ll be at ten years in no time ❤️🫶

This post popped into my Substack when I needed it most!! Thank you!! I think the Universe pointed me in your direction today for a reason. I've been busy trying to get my own Substack up and running over the past 10 days and feeling overwhelmed and frustrated by it, wondering if this was the right thing to do. Yes, I'll keep going!!

Kat, I'm so grateful for your honesty around it all and happy to see you back feeling refreshed and ready to rock! I know the feeling of wanting to scale back and all that comes up with that. I've definitely held on to old visions for too long revisiting your number one again and again and just noticing how it evolves as life changes... looking at it with more of a wonder than a judgement. Anyways, appreciate you living out loud (when it feels good for you to do so) -- we're here with you! XO

I'm late to the Substack party, but every time I read a wonderful article like this, I realise what I've been missing. Lots of great perspectives here. No matter what path we choose, there are challenges. I know it's become a cliché, but a world without challenges and setbacks would be a dull place with no means of calibrating the good times. I turned my back on a 'normal' job 42 years ago, and despite some tumultuous times, I have absolutely no regrets. Living life on our own terms is both a choice and a gift.

I began my artist life before Instagram and the internet world …Not being a very entrepreneurial or outgoing type I did lots of things…modeling, working in a museum, illustration( hated that) and finally P/T art teaching. Almost broke through to some top galleries years ago …but then my musician husband dumped me and that hurt my confidence. Been painting and exhibiting all this time…maybe the tide will finally turn!!! All that really mattered to me was developing my art but still working on the promotion end. Sending XO

Thank you for sharing these thoughts. I’m new to Substack and just returning to art after decades raising a family. I’m soaking up all the advice and reality checks I can.
