Creative Coffee Chat with Curator and Coach Gita Joshi

Kat sits down with London-based curator Gita Joshi to talk launches, Substack, artist dates, books, and ten years of Create! Magazine

Welcome to our new series, Creative Coffee Chat, where we connect with makers, artists, entrepreneurs, and leaders in the arts space to catch up over a cup of your favorite beverage.

This week I’m thrilled to welcome curator, coach, and author Gita Joshi.

In this conversation, we discuss:

  • What’s inspiring us and how we are filling our creative wells

  • What’s on our bookshelves

  • Recommitting to the Artist’s Way (again) and what Kat and Gita’s artists’ dates look like

  • Navigating Instagram chaos and internet manners

  • Growing on Substack and what we love about the platform

  • Up next for Create! Magazine and Gita’s new programs

Gita Joshi is an award-winning art dealer, independent curator, editor at Art Seen Magazine, author of bestsellers Show Your Art and Framing the Invisible, and an artist coach. She opened her gallery in 2013, called Orso Major, and it was an award-winning gallery in Waterloo, London, until 2016.

She has run artists’ open studio programs, worked with arts charities, organized open exhibitions, curated exhibitions in business spaces as well as within the gallery context, helped artists prepare to work with galleries, portfolio reviews, been a juror for art competitions, and is a member of the Association of Women Art Dealers.

Through coaching and mentoring, she has worked with scores of artists to develop their professional business skills, show their art, find gallery representation, secure media coverage, and grow their collector base and wider audience.

She provides coaching for artists who want to be seen, celebrated, and share their story.
